Custom Jewelry Design

Yes, I do custom work!  Whether you’d simply like me to change the length of a necklace you see here on the site or create a completely custom piece just for you from scratch, I am happy to work with you to create your vision. Pricing and turnaround time will be based on the nature of the request. Just send me an email at secretgardenstudiojewelry@gmail.com and we can discuss it. 

To start any custom jewelry design project, I will require a non-refundable deposit of half of what I estimate the final cost to be. The balance will be due when the project is complete. 

If I don’t have all the materials in stock required for your custom order, I will have to order them, and how long it will take to receive the materials depends on where I need to order them from and so forth. I guess what I am trying to say is that many custom orders will require patience on your part. All I can promise is that I will get started on your project as soon as I have everything I need to complete it. 

I will work closely with you throughout the design process to ensure that I am able to translate your vision into a beautiful piece of jewelry that you (or the recipient) will treasure forever.  In the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with the finished piece and really don’t want it; you may send it back, and I will refund you the balance once I receive the piece.  I will, however, keep your initial deposit as payment for the time I invested in the project. 

Every project is different, so I can’t really provide a price list here. The easiest way for me to do pricing is to hear what you would like me to do and then give you a quote. 

So if you’ve got an idea for something cool that you think I could make for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. In terms of wondering what is possible or worrying about the cost, you don’t know if you don’t ask, so ask! I love to collaborate creatively with people and help their visions come to life... and how cool is it to have a one-of-a-kind, custom piece made just for you?!

Likewise, I am happy to make adjustments to any of the pieces that you see here on the site. The piece you buy should fit you perfectly, and I want you to love it. Some small adjustments I may do for free, and I will give you a quote on anything that I think will be more time-consuming.

Here are some examples of things you can ask me to do:

Change the length of an existing necklace or bracelet on the site.   

To make a piece longer often entails simply adding or lengthening an extender chain, which is quick and easy to do. Shortening a piece, however, is more labor-intensive because I have to take the piece apart and restring it, for which I will charge a modest restringing fee. 

Change the metal used in an existing piece on the site from silver to gold, or vice versa. 

SOME, but not all, of the metal beads I work with are available in both silver and gold, so whether I can do this or not depends on the piece in question. 

Change the clasp used on an existing piece on the site. 

Some people prefer one type of clasp over another, so I am willing to swap one out if I have another kind of clasp you may prefer. For example, some people might prefer an easy-to-use magnet clasp* instead of a traditional “lobster claw” clasp. 

*People with pacemakers should not wear jewelry with magnet clasps. 

Change the gemstones used in an existing piece on the site to a different type of gemstone.

Sometimes you may love a design but wish it was in a different color or featured your birthstone instead. If I don’t have the gemstone beads that you want in stock, I will have to order them. This could take some time, but the wait will be worth it!

Make something to your specifications completely from scratch. 

Do you have an idea for an awesome piece of jewelry but not the skills to actually make it yourself? GUYS, do you want to earn extra points and absolutely MELT your lady love’s heart (or your mom’s, your daughter’s, your sister’s, etc.) by designing a custom piece of jewelry just for her? Let me work with you to make your vision into something truly unique and exquisite. Even if you just have a vague idea of what you want (like say, all you know is you want a silver necklace with a particular birthstone), we can start from there and work together to complete the vision. 

Make a healing necklace for you or your loved one. 

For thousands of years, gemstones have been used for their healing powers, and much has been written about their properties, including roles they may play in energizing the chakras, mind-states they can enhance, and their ability to channel, reflect, or repel particular forms of energy. If you or a loved one have a particular issue you’re going through, an aspect of your personality you’re working on, an energy you are trying to draw towards yourself or protect yourself from, or any other kind of mindful endeavor; a necklace of intentionally-chosen gemstones can be a valuable compliment to your spiritual work, while helping you stay grounded on the middle path.

Guys look so HOT in a simple gemstone necklace, either peeking out from a simple button-down shirt, or better yet with no shirt at all! Men tend to like gemstones in darker or earthy tones, and often I use magnet clasps on their necklaces because they get easily frustrated by other clasps. Usually I have a couple of “Unisex” necklaces on my site, which I generally make with men in mind, but I can make custom necklaces (or bracelets) for men too, which make wonderful gifts for boyfriends, husbands, and even for certain dads. And if you’re a dude here reading this, don’t forget to get something nice for yourself too! These are modern times, man... it’s totally okay to buy jewelry for yourself ;)

I realize that most of my current pieces are more expensive than most people like to spend on bridesmaid gifts. With this in mind, I am planning on creating some pieces using Japanese or Czech glass seed beads, which come in all colors and look beautiful with gemstones. Glass seed beads are also very inexpensive, so I figure that if I can integrate them with my gemstones and precious metals, I should be able to come up with some designs for necklaces that are more in the $50 range. It may be a little while before I get any of these made and up on the site, so if you don’t see them up here, feel free to ask me about them.
